(ex) Austrian Tigers at Payerne

Post by E. Schoonderwoerd »

A short spotting trip ended at Payerne last friday. Allthough the flight activities were very poor (understatement) we were lucky to catch the ex austrian tigers. Unfortunately there were covers over the canopies. Too bad, but otherwise we've seen them.

Image

Besides the ex-austrian tigers, we were treated with the Hunter (three times). Allthough the weatherconditions were not perfect, the Hunter made a nice take-off.

Because the Hunter was flying, we had some hope that the Mirage would too. And yes, in the afternoon it did fly.

Allthough we wished too have photographed the mirage in take-off, at that time we were luckily busy, photographing the ex-australian tigers.

The tigers were standing outside the hanger, because they needed the space for a graduation, to host the graduates and their families etc. During this graduation the covers of the canopies were removed. Unfortunately we couldn't take decent pictures, because of the crowd and cars blocking our view from outside. we kindly asked the guard if there was a possibility to photograph the planes from inside the base. After consulting another person (which on his turn, consulted another person) we were welcome to take some pictures (THANKS to the Swiss AF). The results are shown below, which I wanted to share with you. Overal a poor day with hardly any flying activity, but nonetheless a very good day because of the tigers. Probably one of the last possibilities to see them.

That would be nice to know - they've tried to start them already on 8./9.th September - but without luck.
