Today a Russian Tu-160 Blackjack approaches UK eastcoast very close.........
Something to worry about???

So, a Russian bomber reached UK airspace. Who cares? It's a flaw in the British air defence, obviously, but what could have possibly happened? It's not like the Russians are suddenly going to bomb the UK is it? I think the British just feel embarrassed more than 'threatened'.

By the way, wouldn't the Tu-160 have flown over other European countries to get to the UK? You'd think the Scandinavians or even we (the Dutch) should have seen it on radar somewhere?

Nope, they take the long route.... All the way in international airspace, around the Northern Cape of Norway, and down the Northsea.... Maybe a couple of refuellings along the way....

Well, I wouldn't mind to see one flying over Dutch airspace (just on patrol ofcourse).
Quite a sight...
The ones at Fairford were quite inpressive years ago.

I thought they returned from Chavez country before this happened, Route was over the Pacific, if I recall right..

At Fairford we've seen Tu-95 Bears en Tu-22 Backfires, unfortunately no Tu-160 Blackjacks (yet).

I don't know if you've read the article, but it clearly states it happened late last year So it can be one of the 2, but not on the way back from Venezuela.

The rest of which the posters refer to is all in the article (an embarassed RAF, but also a response according to the threat, I suppose a Blackjack is not enough of a threat, I suppose an ICBM launched from the middle east would be treated way different, but that would start off a whole different topic).
