Hi all,
We had changed our itinerary a bit rather last minute, therefor we now woke up rather far north of London (in a hotel we had already booked a long time ago) while we planned to start at Hendon. Well, this gave us the opportunity to check out Elstree on the way.
Elstree
XX537/C Bulldog T.1 CFS mks (G-CBCB)
HA-SMD Yak-18T (c/n 13-35, ex mil?)
HA-YAD Yak-18T (c/n 22202054812, ex mil?)
Also present was AB.47 G-MASH, this is civil only right? And then lots and lots of civil tinn for Frank.....
When we finally had logged all that stuff we moved on to Hendon.

Almost exactly two years ago we also visited here, but then in the afternoon, while the Graham White-factory is only open till noon. And although most stuff in there is what we call "houtje-touwtje" ("wood and bandage"), they still are real aircraft.... We also got the CH-47D nose this time; which Chinook did fly as BN during the Falklands? Also on display is the nose of another Beaufighter, is this a real one? I didn't log Whirlwind XP299 by the way, but maybe I forgot to write it down. As you can see I miss a few unit markings; if someone could help with those he would make me very happy
OK, that's one long missing (part of a) museum covered. Next please!

Since it takes some time to get into London this museum we didn't visit this museum before, but now it finally happened. And although the collection is rather small, it's worth it!
Very nearby our third museum is another little gem hidden.
Andrew Martin design store, London
(XS100) Gnat T.1 pr, nose, bare metal
This is preserved in the back of this shop at 200 Walton Street. You really need to get in to see it, so only during office hours! The rest of this aircraft is also still around, as you will read in tomorrows log.
And then another museum in town.

An interesting collection, but the light and the way the aircraft are displayed are horrible for photography. We almost missed the Avro, SC.1 and Measuring Rig; those are displayed at another floor than the rest! We actually had already left the museum when we saw a picture with a (civil) Lockheed and decided to go back to check that one. When we finally found it the other three aircraft were there as well! The Spitfire PK664 that used to be displayed on the second floor has moved to the storage of the museum.
And after we had done this museum it was already rather late and dark. We decided to have a look at Hyde Park (including a totally deserted speakers corner), Buckingham Palace and the Big Ben by walking back to the underground via the "touristic route". Very tired and hungry, but also very satisfied we had finally done these museums, we ate a sandwich at the foot of the Big Ben (bought in a shop opposite it, where the guy behind the counter started speaking Dutch to us when he heard we were Dutch; he was studying our language.......).
One more day to go!
As always corrections, etcetera......
That´s all folks!
