F-111 Aardvarks in Europe

Post by maurits »

Hi all,

One of my favorite planes is the almighty GD F-111 Aardvark. In 1993 I have got the oppertunity to visit RAF Upper Heyford. Before it's closure in December and leaving all the F-111Es some planes already left the UK for the USA. On the day of our visit also some retro-flights took place. We were lucky to catch some 20 different Aardvarks from 55,77 and 79FS.
Although it was not allowed to take pictures, our great guide and ''Aardvark- Lybia and Gulfwar ace'' Capt. Vance Drankenhain gave us a hidden place behind the backdoor of our big van. This is the result, Aardvarks taxiing a few meters away!
Starting with 67-0121/UH from 55FS with lots of combat mission markings in it's shelter

My personal highlight of the IAT93 was this RAAF 6sq F-111C A8-127, caught it during landing and on the ramp.
Unfortunately this plane crashed in September later that year.

Hope you like them!
