RSS feeds cached

Post by Hans »

All,

Since implementing the RSS feed we have had recurring problems with this message board - and all other applications using the databases for that matter (the Wiki, the Civil and Military databases, the airfield guides etc), causing those being not reachable for several minutes, or even crashing the complete database (the Too many connections [1040] and Can't connect to local MySQL server-errors respective).

Whether this was caused by too many people using the RSS feed in general, or just too many people having the refresh rate to short (like every 10 seconds or something like that), I don't know and I didn't check, as the solution would be the same anyway.

As of tonight the RSS feed is being 'cached' and only refreshed every three minutes, server side. This means it will have no use at all to set the refresh rate any shorter.

As this has been a rather quick implemented solution, errors may occur - although it has been tested in several readers. If you happen to get any such error in your RSS feed, please send me a Private Mail through this message board (e-mails on this subject will not be answered ;-) )

Regards,

Hans

The listing with the last eight topics on the main page has had the same treatment.
