Hot Shots

Post by Shannon spotter »

Hi lads/lasses,

A strange question for ye, i saw my sister watching "Hot Shots" the other day (What a movie  ) anyway she asked me what type of plane "Topper" flew.

Now, i looked at it but i cant recognise it.
Anyone out there know what type they flew?? It looks like a Folland Gnat/Ajeet.

Thanks in advance,
Dirk.

Nothing wrong with your aircraft recognition; Gnats indeed!
Answers will be questioned.....

I think they used Ajeets indeed, one of them was owned by Dave Tallichet and I think it's now preserved in a museum...

Far as I can tell these are former RAF expamples. The Gnat is produced by Folland and the Ajeet is produced in license by the HAL in India. Far as I know only India operated the Ajeet and the Gnat has been delivered to Finland and the UK. The Gnats in Hotshots are former RAF in USN colors.

Hi Wijgert,

The Gnat preserved in the museum at March, Ca is a former Indian AF Ajeet and there are a number of Ajeets stored at Chino.
Maybe they were Ajeets or a mix! Don’t know it is possible to tell the difference between them!

Best regards,

That's what I thought, don't think there were that many Folland Gnats flying in the US...
