REQ Spotting in the UK (Mildenhall & Lakenheath)

Post by Paveway »

Hi,

With the upcoming RIAT, we are also planning to visit some other airbases in the UK and especially Mildenhall and Lakenheath.
Can anyone give some information/advise about the spotting possibilities in the UK and in particular at these airbases?
Are there any strict security policies nearby these bases and are spotters allowed?
What about photographing and scanner usage?

Thanks for any info!

Greetings,
Richard

No strict policies (as in: it is allowed / accepted), Lakenheath even has a dedicated spotterscorner (backlit conditions most of the day though but viewing is OK..) and spotters are allowed. The USAF police did note my license plate though from within the fence but overall they are used to people along their fence. Just give them a wave! ;-)

Thanks for the info!

I know (from experience) that US airbase security is not always happy with spotters...
Did anyone encounter problems while spotting/photographing at Lakenheath & Mildenhall?

Thanks in advance!

Greetings

Never had any problems at any of the two, also never heard of someone else having problems. For the right spots to go too, you should have a look at our airfield guide section.

The airfield guides are very informative and explain the spotter possibilities very clear, well done!
