Are there people who has pictures from the period the taxitrack in "the far east" was in use??

Grappig op een van die sites bij Geheime Plekjes:

Dit jaar voor het eerst mee geweest. We gingen eerst naar het Amerikaanse kamp. Daar had ik nog nooit voet gezet. Er waren twee shelters waar zich de vliegtuigen en restanten van vliegtuigen bevonden. Welke weet ik niet meer, ik was teveel onder de indruk eindelijk is de heilige grond te mogen betreden. Waar zoveel F-102 ’s gereden hebben. Ik heb wat foto’s gemaakt. Een vrijwilliger van het museum zag me bezig en drukte me op het hart ze te verwijderen van mijn geheugenkaart. Soesterberg is namelijk een NAVO basis. Inmiddels weet ik wel beter dan tegenspreken.

Sinds het vertrek van het 32ste is SSB toch al lang geen NAVO basis meer? Blijft feit dat foto's van infrastructuur (gebruikt of niet) niet gemaakt mogen worden, ook al zijn ze daar in het buitenland wat strenger mee dan hier.

Ligt er aan hoe je NAVO basis definieerd. Cougars, Chinooks en Alouettes vlogen tot een datum die nog niet zo lang geleden is nog van EHSB. Die toestellen waren van een van de lidstaten van de NAVO (en een heleboel uitzendingen waren in opdracht/onder auspicien van de NAVO), en daarom kan je tot de sluiting Soesterberg wel degelijk als een NAVO basis betitelen.

Some reminders from the German period when Vliegbasis Soesterberg was called Fliegerhorst Soesterberg.


German build Fallschirmtrockenrei, for drying and repairing parachutes. Only one of these buildings is left in the Netherlands. The brickwall around the tower was build in 1955.


Luftwaffe lazarett, a medical centre for wounded or ill pilots. Rebuild in 1955 as canteen building.[/b


The same Fallschirmtrockenrei, but now from a diferent angle. On the right side of the building a sports hall was build on in the 60`s.

To be honest, it isn't my favorite last pic of Soesterberg AB and I don't know exactly who made this shot so I cannot give the photographer the credit he diserves.

Nice set of photos but to prevent any confusion, the buildings are not at the base. They are located at the former Jessurunkamp at Soestduinen. It was among other camps (WS Kamp, Kamp van Zeist, Kamp Blikkenburg, Swagermankamp en Bunker Driebergen) part of the conglomeration Soesterberg.

A small correction on the photo of the Fallschirmtrockenrei.
There are at least 2 left in the Netherlands, one at Jesserunkamp (the one on the photo) and one at Deelen.

In WW II Fliegerhorst Soesterberg was much bigger than The Vliegbasis now is, it even strecht out till halfway the Vlasakkers. So Waldlager I now gone, Waldlager II after war called Walaardt-Sacre Kampe and Waldlager III now called Jesserunkamp were part of Fliegerhorst Soesterberg.

Kamp van Zeist, Kamp Blikkenburg, Swagermankamp and the bunker in Driebergen were no part of Fliegerhorst Soesterberg. The Bunker Ceasar was build in 1943 as HQ Stab I Jagdkorps but never used as such, after the war it was used as a Sections Operations Centre and personel was housed in Kamp Blikkenburg. Swagermankamp was used as personel housing for Villa Wulperhorst, HQ for Commando Luchtverdediging and Korps Luchtwacht Dienst. The Villa is now the house of a famous Dutch pianist.

So Walaardt-Sacre Kamp and Jesserunkamp were in WW II part of the Fliegerhorst Soesterberg.

This is what they called the "Tacan". The Tacan is a beacon wich stands almost in the middle of the runway. Older navigation systems used the Tacan to see where they are flying. This was used untill planes got GPS. Some planes can still use it as a back-up system.

Thanks for the historical info. I just wanted to make clear that the buildings weren't at the base but at one of the camps. Been many times at the mentioned camps during my service time at soesterberg. And been at the villa too before Wibi started to play overthere

I am sorry, i made a mistake.
The Fallschirmtrockenrei at Deelen has a different desing, there is no external tower but it is incorperated in the building.
