The spot is about 15 walk from terminal 1, you can see the teminal in the bottom of the aerial photo.
You do not need that many mm, max 300 on digital will do.
During most of the year there are to many heatwaves to use more in ground shots anyway.

In order to get to those spotting spots, I take the subway from Terminal 3 to "Barajas", direction T4 (it will be the next stop, so you can't miss it). Because you are using an airport station the fare is 2€ (otherwise would be 1€) one-way. After you get out the station you turn right, go down the street, cross the motorway and the roundabout and there you are.
I never had problems at all with security, and you see them passing by inside the airport many times, but I think that because it's such a popular location everyone is used to see spotters there. And you can stay there the all day for free. Good place for registration takers, altough traffic landing on 33R might be hard to get the reg's (depending on parking position).

I can agree with both of you.. The fences and obstacles are so horrible remarkable but we may be happy that it's possible to spot at such airports as of it becomes harder due to security regulationsFlyTheWorld wrote:Nice planes!

I have to agree with you. If taking photos as indicated on the map position A, there won't be anyting bothering you, but spot B is very tricky with too many trees, signs and other stuff (including the roof of one builing). To overcame this I take photos on the angle shown in te last photos. I understand it might not suit all the spotters taste, but that whatI can get from this place. Next time I visit Madrid I will try to go to the approach areas. By the way, I also don't take photos without sun. I just get the registrations. That's how I do the most beatifull hobby in the world

I allways heard about the Ibis hotel beiing located next to the approach path of runway 33L.A search on the google earth might help you out. During my short visits to Madrid, I allways stay inside the terminal.
