This is the forum to share your recent aviation photos with the rest of the community, being photos not older than six months at the moment of topic opening. Theme-based topics, not about recent events, should go into the sub-forum. Although we will not screen beforehand, we reserve the right to delete any images, especially if clearly unsharp or otherwise low in quality. For more information on how to upload you images, check this post. In topic titles, please use airfield names in stead of just codes, and be clear about what kind of photos your viewers can expect (e.g. CIV/MIL, location etc.). Finally, bring any photo criticism understandable and to the point, not cynical or offensive! Simultaneously, do not feel offended by criticism per se, but simply explain your motives, taste et cetera, or ignore if you wish so. |
Repainting a nose cone has to be done with special paint, as the radar dome is in the nose. If they use other type of paint than the special kind, the radar will lose functionality, something we don't want ofcourse. The messy looks are probably because of cleaning of the nose cone. The nose doesn't often get cleaned or repainted (hence the always darker color of the nose compared to the body). Sometimes (rarely though) they try to make some special pattern by cleaning only bits of the nose and leaving some dirty. Maybe this is the case with J-060.Brian wrote:very nice indeed! although the registration of this aircraft looks like a Le Bourget / ILA registration
And what's up with the nosecone of the J-060? it's always messy on this a/c.. could't they paint that too? (they could paint the nose of the J-015)..
I was at Volkel to watch the new demo bird up close and had a quick word with Chris Vaneker. He told me they were very happy to get permission to paint the entire aircraft including the nose cone but painting this small part was almost as expensive as painting the entire fuselage, wings and tail together!kiwi wrote:Repainting a nose cone has to be done with special paint, as the radar dome is in the nose. The nose of J-015 is either painted black with a special paint (that they have the black special doesn't mean they have the right grey used on the operational F-16's), or with other paint, meaning the radar functionality of J-015 is lost (and therefor not operationally functional)
Exactly, which explains why they don't do it very often and just let the nose get dirtyMark B. wrote:I was at Volkel to watch the new demo bird up close and had a quick word with Chris Vaneker.
