USAF C-9's retired?

Post by Shannon spotter »

Hi Lads,

Shannon saw a visit of a USAF C-9 73-1681 yesterday.

I though the USAF had retired it's C-9 fleet. According to the internet: "The C-9 fleet was retired from active duty in 2003 and from Reserve status in 2005."

Might this be a error in either the reading of the serial or is the internet at fault?

Regards,
Dirk.

The US Navy and US Marines did not retire their C-9's yet. Only the USAF retired most of them. Exception are the Scott C-9's which are still flying.

Michel

USAF has retired all their C-9A Nightingales in 2005, the Air Ambulances so to speak.

At this moment the C-9Cs are not scheduled to be withdrawn from service. Although a future replacement by C-40s might be a possibility.

The US Navy still operates plenty C-9s, which over the years shall be replaced by C-40s
