Copying from yesterday's MIL topic;

Spoke to the BBMF chief engineer at the DDA-hangar yesterday; he confirmed that a new engine was being trucked over (Hull-Rotterdam ferry) as they could not find RAF air transport. The engine itself was no problem: they currently have 13 RR Merlins in stock...
German then came for something else...

Adios,

With having WWII in mind, it would have been a bizar thing if he did carry the Merlin engine... :clap:
The Luftwaffe helping out the RAF to fix a Lancaster bomber... huh... :rofl2:

as James said more often than once: expect the unexpected :P ! my info was from yesterday, 1400lt when I spoke to the chief engineer. At that point he had just finished a phonecall to Coningsby in which the ferry solution was discussed. Thankfully for those who had the luck to see the Trall, the Germans helped out. off-topic: probably on the condition that it wouldn't be used operationally :wink:

Other troublespot: the complete oil-system has/had to be drained, cleaned and inspected because of (possible) contamination with small metal particles.
