Alghero (Sardinia) (LIEA/AHO) - 2009 MIL

Post by BennoT6 »

Hi "spotter Europe" readers,

In mid-June my girlfriend and I will be staying on the Italian island of Sardinia for a couple of days. Arrival (and departure) will be at Alghero. As far as I know there is no military aviation anymore. W&R-reports mention a couple of Harvards/Texans remain on site, once used by the former Italian advanced flying schools there. Who knows :
* if these Harvards (MM53674, MM53838/SL-3, MM53861/SL-45, MM53881/SL-46) still exist?
* if any of those Harvards is being used as a gateguard, and is on public view?
* if any of those Harvards is on the airfield, in a non-public area, how to obtain access?

All help very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Benno

Although no military a/c are based at Alghero, the military side (west side) is often visited by italian military visitors.

Two Harvards (SL-3 and SL-46) can be found just inside the gate of the military part (coordiantes 40 37 45N 8 16 52E). Both can be seen from outside the gate.
