Unbelievable. 3 million euro's of the Goverment, only 3 aircrafts on the runway. A very expensive party, and a very bad party.
The fly bye was very bad, you can better go to Hilversum Airport, there are more aircrafts like these! Goodbye Soesterberg.

The organisation must be ashamed for this day. All people expected at least a few helicopters, a fighter of some more.... but only 4 Ppier Cubs and 2 Harvards
Or the possibilities to discover the landscape of the former airbase, the buildings, hangars and shelters. No, only a small part of the runway, with catering, bad music, 3 aircrafts and two old tanks.

Very Very bad farewell party!

I think a farewell party can't be good anyway in this case.

This was more a hello party to see how Soesterberg will be without planes and noise polution regarding the organizers.

Yes, I do agree with you, but the farewell party of the Airforce at the 12th of November last year was much better and a worthy farewell party. And the most visitors who yesterday brought a visit to the former airbase, expected something like that. Fighters, helicopters, and off course also the good old ones like the Harvard. Then it should be a worhty farewellparty for the people from Soest, Soesterberg and Zeist.

Yes it was not interesting for plane spotters but it was already a known programme so the complains are a little bit childies I think.
We knew already that it would not a plane event so what did you realy expect.
Indeed it was sad but it was just an event on former militairy terrain not on a militairy airbase.

Yep, you're totally right. It was not planned as a airshow, or day with flight displays. But come on, a flye bye with some historical airplanes. Then I expect at least the B-25 Mitchel, the "KLu Historische Vlucht", A Dakota and some more. There are a lot of flying oldies in the Netherlands, so that could not be the biggest prorblem I think.

And also the scale models, even they could not show their airplanes in the air (okey, maybe 15 minutes). I spoke with one of them, and he told me that he expected he could fly the whole afternoon.

I agree it was just a party on a former base, however the title.. hello goodbye Soesterberg was a bit misleading for the people living in the area. Also the logo of the event and billboards placed in (at least) Zeist and Soest with showing an F15 and a Chinook were creating expectations I think. I didn't visit the base yesterday but reading and hearing all comments it was a disappointment for many people bcause there was no real flying goodbye, but just a market with parties that have an interest / benefit in the future development of te base. I think this was not why the majority of the people came. (the came to say goodbye to and to see flying aircraft and activities like eg a parajump etc).

Looking to the high interested for flying aircraft, I really hope that for the future some people / organisations pick up this signal and when the museum is transferred to the base eg a yearly airday with (old aircraft) fly in / flypast over the (ex) base can be organised.... (suggestion July 1st, together with KLU annual celebration), however I wonder if Zeist / Soest / Provincie Utrecht (the organizers of the "great party yesterday") will allow this... future will tell

Although, in all fairness and in spite of it being a lame event (didn't stay for more than 30 minutes), I must admit that it was kinda fun to drive my car over the threshold of the runway, even at 30 km/h , and to park on the location of the barrier :P

And, now that I come to think of it, would the crash of the radio controlled Beaver model count as the last flying accident on base? (It ground-looped on landing, ripping off its wheels and a wingtip)

went to the base at 11:45 (live in Amersfoort so its close by) went inside, hit the throttle on the runway (great feeling to be on old soesty`s runway) parked my car, walked about 2km around the runway looking for loose bits of asphalt (or what ever the runway is made off) after 20 min i found a loose bit near a drain and i took it with me (its resting on my bookcase :P) after that i went home.

Did not even go near the "festive area" clearly it was all set up for the "dagjes mensen" who probebly went "oooh aaah" at the AWESOME fly past.

Did the B-25 made a fly-by?
Is currently having an engine replaced. Might not even be able to fly at Volkel.

Here we go again. Why do spotters continuously think that these sorts of days are organized especially for them and that all (ex) KLu property is there for them and them only.

Well I have news for you.

these days are NOT for you only
. In fact, the KLu wouldn't even notice when you didn't come. So it would have been better if you'd just stayed at home.

This day was held for the people who live around Soesterberg. The people reffered to as 'Dagjesmensen' on this board in a very degrading manner. Like they are the lowest form of life on earth. And are only here to spoil the day for the spotter(and now don't reply with the comment that "they are" because that wíll make you look like a 12 year old) .

Who do you think you are criticizing the KLu? Too few planes, wel boohoo  . Did you have to payto get in? No! So stop complaining. The KLu could have just left the key of the base and left without doing anything.

It's the same thing with the KLu Open Dagen. Always complaining about everything; too few planes, too high fences and to much 'Dagjesmensen' ......Blabla. I bet next sunday this board will be full with those complaints again.

Do you really think the KLu cares about spotter complains????? Spotters make less then 0,000001% of the population.

So stop acting like someone who does matter and get a life!

Sorry, had to get this of my chest.
Back to topic, is there anyone else with nice pictures of this day? Someone who doesn't need to complain but who appreciated the effort by the KLu??
I always say a boy can learn more at an airport than at any school.

Ive had enough bad experiences with dagjes mensen that i have nothing nice to say about them.

Things that annoy me the most are the bumping against your equipment, putting up big parasol/umbrella, or even wind screens, pushing and shoving to get infront of you, bringing their own seat to sit at the front but standing when something takes off.. (not like they cant see it when sitting down so people behind them can take pics)

ah well this friday i`m leaving extra early for Volkel to beat the Dagjes mensen terror that kept me from taking any good take-off pics at last years show..

Wish all Dutch shows had the same arrangement as Fairford`s Friends of RIAT packages.. i`d gladly pay for a Spotter/Photographer only stand/tribune
