Bombay spotting (very photo heavy)

Bombay spotting (very photo heavy)

The final leg of my recent spotting trip brought me to Mumbay. India has a fast growing economy and since the government allowed private airlines a number of new airlines have emerged.
Some are also disappearing, Jet Airways bought Air Sahara and more recent Kingfisher bough Air Deccan. Air India and Indian are merging.

Spotting in India is still a novelty, it is unclear what is and what is not allowed.
Encouraged by recent photo's in the internet and after making contact with an Indian spotter it was time to make the jump.

Below was photographed in two and a half days, the line up shot are only possible till about 11 in the morning,
most other shots are of landings on runway 27 in the afternoon.

Finally a photo to show the hill from which the line up shots were taken. You are standing in the people's backgarden, this garden is used to dump anything and everything that is no longer needed, including human waste. This is normal for India though.

Nice to see such a report from India, still is a largely unknown teritory.
Are you also preparing a number report? I would be very interested in how much can be seen in a day.

Very nice pictures!

How did you experience spotting in such conditions? You say you were spotting from a 'residential' area, how did local non-spotters respond to your presence? Would you consider it safe to go there on your own or are there security risks?

Just curiousity :wink:

Thanks for the renewed interest in this topic (originally posted a year and a half ago)

More spotters have been there since and I would say it is safe to go there BUT
do bear in mind that this is a totally different country and you have to put up with dirty,
smelly, noisy and crowded conditions. especially the yought can find foreigners very interesting.

Also the police and security are not yet convinced that spotters are harmless and it is therefore better to keep low key.
This situation was not helped by the terrorist attacks in Mumbai since.

And yes that girl is taking a dump right before your feet
