REQ spotting spots at North Island, California

Hi All,

Off to California next week on a mostly non-spotting trip to California, and planning to visit North Island.

Would anyone know of any good spots for numbers and/or pics? (Airfield guide here on site is members only, and since there still isn't a web-only membership...)

Regards,
Marcel

Dog Beach on Coronado puts you in the approach of rw 29. Fridays are often good with lots of weekend visitors. Otherwise activity might be low unless there is a deployment.

You can take one of the harbour tours that goes near the fence. You can see the stored a/c (F-18's), the Midway museum restauration area and lots of SH-60's, but serials are difficult to read.

Best place to read and photograph SH-60's is apparantly Imperial Beach Field on the coast near Mexico, they practise here.

Thanks,

Tuesday or wednesday are the only two days I have available, so it ain't gonna be friday unfortunately.

I will probably try the harbourtour and the beach though, and if no activity I'll drive on to Imperial Beach.

Thanks again,
Marcel

Hi

Cabrillo lighthouse (Point Loma lighthouse) is also a nice place to see the planes. Reading numbers is not possible. But if runway 36 is in use nice views of planes taking of or landing.

Grtz

Hey Marcel,
We have a airfiled guide of NAS North Island. Check it out here: http://www.scramble.nl/airports/index.html
You can also check out Imperial Beach. which is just south of NASNI. Here the H-60s do there training. (EDIT: Mazzel said that already  ). There is also a airfield guide of Imperial Field btw

Took the tour today, saw the F-18's. Would anyone have a list of which ones should be there? I took loads of photo's and some codes can be read. A list would be helpfull.

TIA,
Marcel
