Looking for site of RAF Stirling crash from 1943

Post by airborne_artist »

I am trying to find the site of an RAF Stirling aircraft that crashed near Helchteren, Limburg on 14/02/1943.

Is an aviation history group that may have information on this?

Many thanks.

Have you already tried these guys?

Contact: http://www.crash40-45.nl/museum_nl/contact/start.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; .

They may be able to help or can point to an organisation which knows where to look for.

All I got is this:

15 Squadron RAF
Stirling Mk.I BF448 LS-T
Crew:
F/L OC Chave (KIA)
Sgt LL Gladwin RCAF (KIA)
Sgt JF Cook (KIA)
P/O WA McL Archibald (KIA)
Sgt AA Self (KIA)
P/O JNM Muir (KIA)
Sgt TF Stocks (KIA)
Sgt JE Nicholls (KIA)

....damn :(

Took off at 1825 hrs from RAF Bourn. Shot down by Ofw Fritz Schellwat 5.NJG 1 during raid on Cologne

By the way: Helchteren is in Belgian Limburg

Hopes this helps
