Due to bad weather circumstances all flying activities were cancelled yesterday. This happened after three runs, 4x F-18 were followed by 6x F5 and four more F18.

Ough! All that sunshine.... We were there yesterday and the show was cancelled due to the weather conditions. I only pictured the F-5's (weather was absolute ==censored==) and the second wave of F-18s when the weather was a little better. Too bad I found out I had the wrong camera settings afterwards...... so better luck next year:

I'll add a video of the first F-18 wave in the rain later on.

A bit blurred, but the first time I saw these shockwaves like this (EDIT, for René a.k.a. Birdman: I mean that I saw this effect at my own picture ;-))

Hey Rogier!

Not true man, you saw my picture of this from 2005! Did you have a great time? The webcam idea wouldn't have worked, cause it went out of order that day, guess to many people tried to see the Axalp during the show (though only Windegg, Axalp village and Brienz are visible). Anyway, great photo's! Especially this last one of the high speed pass. That is really something to see!

A pity to hear the Thursday session of this years shooting demonstration has been canceled. I was lucky being there on the Wednesday... Here another (different) one taken from my spot in front of the Control Tower on top of the area and as can be seen photographing with back light isn't always easy:

10. Another one of the demo scraping close to the soundbarrier. Anyone know what name is connected to the lines of the shockwaves at the back of the wings? (I thought they call them ".... lines" but cannot find the name anywhere on the net).

Some stunning pictures posted here already. Really great considering the not always perfect lighting conditions up there. I took the hike up to Axalp on Tuesday although the weather on Wednesday was much better. Wanted to avoid the busy crowd that turned up the next day. I still have a great amount of photos to sort out, but here a couple of them.

A nice surprise on Tuesday. Unfortunately only one run so I couldn't get a better shot

On our way down from axalp after the cancellation, we where treated by these sounds (non-aircraft). Best to listen with headphones for the echo's:

Another great day out on the mountains. Wednesday 07Oct09 proved to be full of sunshine for this dynamic event. Enjoy my contribution to the Axalp 2009 photo forum (while I recover from my muscle pain).

1. The F/A-18 solodisplay at the start of his program.
Image
2. The arrival of the Rega helicopter for the show.
Image
3. The well known cottage on the other side of the valley (the receiving end).
Image
4. The Swiss Airforce showing off their newest equipment in formation.
Image
5. Light conditions and contrast were extreme during the show as this Cougar shows.
Image
6. Spectators on the second hill during the F/A-18 solodisplay.
Image
7. While it was raining in The Netherlands, we were all burning away under a cloudles sky.
Image

P.S. Where are the pictures that people took from the top of the mountain on the other side? I am very curious!
