Damascus (OSD/DAM) - 2009

Post by DylanLlewellyn »

Hi, I know this http://www.scramble.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=39305" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is an old report but any information on spotting here would be welcome. I am hoping to take a 2-3 day trip somewhere unusual this year and am thinking of either Damascus (preference) or Tehran. Any idea on the spotting conditions, photography, legality would be welcome!!

Cheers, Dylan

This one is still operational. I saw it arriving at Damascus on the 26th of March.

Don´t even think about taking pictures of planes in Syria, really not recommended. They even have a problem with taking pictures of planes in musea.... From a plane you can pull it off, outside or in the terminal you have no chance.

Syrian air flew until july 1994 with the Caravelle yk-afb and yk-afd. Then they were WFU. Didn´t you see these beauties at Damascus ? The yk-afb was stored near the maintenance base with the nose up.

no places to see anything or shoot anything exept on arrival and departure.
There are security cameras everywhere in the airport.

This year I did notice an airport hotel at Damascus, but quite distant from everywhere interesting.
The only interesting place is the mil ramp. Yk40, An26, IL76, Tu134

Hi and thank you for the answers, I am honestly not that bothered about photography, I am far more interested in the spotting and number crunching!

I guess I need to think some more about this trip, although it is not all for the spotting, Damascus looks an interesting place all the same!
