Glad you liked it, Henk. I seem to be drawing on Plattsburgh AFB for many of my recent uploads, and I'll continue with
that trend. This pretty TA-4J is from VC-2 at NAS Oceana, seen at Plattsburgh on 7 September 1974. I was driving a
1969 Volkswagen Beetle at the time, but as you can see in the background, my fellow Americans still preferred huge cars.
Normally I would try to filter out vehicles in my photos, by hiding them behind part of the airframe (just like you filter out
a distracting aircraft in the rear, or the lady in the lime green pants, who attends every airshow everywhere in the world).
But once in a while I find vehicles help with chronological context.

Wow Tom, that's a gorgeous Scooter, one of my favourites. Do you have some single seaters left in your shoebox?

By the way, cars and especially oldtimers are another hobby of mine, so I don't mind if one pops into your pictures every now and then...

Hi Tom. thank you for sharing all those colorful birds. In the seventies a color slide film cost me a lot of money. And I only bought a few. Most of the time I used B/W films. Here are some pics from Soesterberg.

Wonderful selection, Henk. Like you, I took a lot of B&W because it was more affordable, and also because the weather in this part of the USA is often cloudy. Shooting Kodachrome was expensive!

I've never seen a Lightning, but I always heard they had a legendary climb rate.

I think I see a Loran "Towel Rack" antenna on ZR596. I guess LORAN has just about vanished today. I was hoping to hear some and record it to a sound file, just for the historical value, but I haven't heard any. (Not sure what it sounds like, either).

I'll scan some more B&W from the 70s pretty soon.

Tom, thanks for your quick response. You're spoiling me this way!

Henk, great b&w shots, incredible sharpness.

Looking forward to further postings of both of you!

Hey Henk,

Very nice shots that bring back good memories. In those days I used a Zenith camera and the results were terrible. Ha, ha. Glad that you share those great quality pics with us. And don't worry...we don't get bored by them!

Take care, Dick Wels

A-4L 149623 at Bradley Field, CT on 21 October 1973. The 7Y tail code is from NAF Detroit, but I have no idea what attack squadron(s) would have flown the "L" variant from there. The "L" was developed through upgrading of earlier Skyhawks, and was done specifically for the USNR (U.S. Naval Reserve) squadrons. The early morning light bothered me at the time, but it does show detail quite nicely.

Tom, I love the pictures that you're posting in this topic. The only problem is that my screen is not wide enough to fit them. I don't know if other people are experiencing the same thing. If that's the case I would like to ask you to downsize them a little bit to, let's say, 1200x800px. Thanks in advance and keep up the good work :)

Right, back under control at my normal "large" size of 1024W. Sorry for the inconvenience.

More workhorses from the LTV stable. This one is A-7D 73-1006 at Plattsburgh AFB, NY 19 May 1979. In spite of the nice tail stripe, I'm not certain to which ANG unit this aircraft was assigned, but my guess would be Ohio's 166 TFS.
