Will be travelling to Gilze from Schiphol, but can anyone advise whether it's better to do this by hire car or train? For instance is there a shuttle service from the railway station to the airfield, is parking up and getting away again difficult etc?
This is the wrong place, but I am sure that a mod will move it. You can go by hired car, but the parking places are usually quite jammed just as the roads in and out. From Gilze Rijen train station it is short hike to the gate for the show. Lots of people do that. Usually the airforce also provides bus services to train station and they are a good option. But also very busy offcourse at the closing time of the show because everybody wants to leave at the same time.
I always went by train to Gilze Rijen train station and walked. I still consider it the better choice!
For information on train services check http://www.ns.nl/cs/Satellite/travellers" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (From 'Schiphol' to 'Gilze-Rijen').
Last few times the show was at Gilze-Rijen, the shuttle busses didn't leave from Gilze-Rijen railway station but from Tilburg and Breda. (as Gilze-Rijen railway station was thought to be too small to handle the complete wave of visitors.) Those busses leave direct from the front side of the stations, and drop you off at the gate. Maybe for you and other foreign visitors this English language Dutch public transport site could be helpful? http://journeyplanner.9292.nl/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I also think that this is the best option. I live in Breda and the last few times I visited the show I took the shuttle bus from railway station Breda to Airbase Gilze-Rijen where you will be droped off at the entrance gate. It is not the main entrance of the airbase because that entrance is closed for public. Its about 30 minutes from railway station Breda and after the show you can take the shuttle bus again at the same place where you are droped off earlier that day. So you don't have to walk to get to the airbase. These shuttle buses are specially for the airshow and free of charge.
As stated before, the entrance at the north side (maingate) will not be open for public. There will be one entrance at the westside (Langebergseweg) and one at the eastside (the road is called Moleneind if I'm not mistaken).

This won't effect the Public transportation... Al public transportation access will be from Breda CS or Tilburg CS if im not mistaken??...
You're not mistaken, that is if you ment the free shuttleservice to the Luchtmachtdagen in particular. It does effect public transportation in general.
