also non aviation, this morning half past 9 a friend of my texted me with the news that jordi Cruijff was going to be the new trainer for FC AZ and that his father (yeah Johan)would assist him.... I first let him know that I was surpriced and let him now will see for the season what it will bring...
he was enthousiastic about it and after 10 minutes I told him to look on the calender....
he said I was an pessimist and should work as an police inspector,.....at the moment he's still grumpy...

Greetings Ton

Nice one on the mermaid haha!

Here is one from the Swedish province Blekinge in cooperation with the Swedish Airforce!
http://www.blt.se/nyheter/blekinge/lans ... 843360).gm

A free interpretation in English (from me):

"Because of the very large amount of snow from the last months the ground and waters have become very "sour" due to calcification. So the local authorities want to fight that problem by distributing lime all around. Now, this can be done by helicopters or fire-fighter planes, as is done with water for fires e.g., but because the situation is so urgent they need a quicker and more effective solution.

So the local authorities called in the help of the Swedish Airforce 17th Figther Wing at Ronneby Airbase in the south. They operate the JAS 39 Gripen fighters and came with a perfect solution: use the fuel tanks at the Gripens to distribute the lime.
The drop-tanks are normally filled with fuel, but they could likewise by filled with concentrated lime which then can be released as would have been done when fuel is released for instance before emergency landings.
This solution would perfect coz the Gripen fighters can fly with speeds up to 1000-1200 km/h so they can cross the province in just 6 minutes. Moreover, with these speeds the lime will be become liek powder when released and cover a large area in a short time.

This all wil be both of benefit for the local authorities as it will be cheaper and for the pilots as now they can fly their missions at low altitude above land in stead of sea as they would normally do.

On the question if this then will not cause a lot of noise and complainments: yes, there may be a few sound bangs and planes come over at high speeds and low. But we will inform everyone before we start on which day it be and how one can protect himself against the noise. Afterall, the reason behind this operation is to protect the environment so I think most will agree with us and accept the noise for those few days we spread the lime. "

There is also a movie with interview... in Swedish though...

http://WWW.FVPHOTO.NL/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; --- Check out my photos of this spotting season on my website!

I'd rather depict atmosphere and the 'heat of the moment' making a catchy photo than to reflect the real situation and real colours showing a boring photo.
