EHLW 15-04-2010 (missions cancelled)

Hey all,

Just heard that until further notice all Frisian Flag mission have been cancelled.
All aircraft that were already airborne are re-called and returning to base.

Reason: Vulcanic Ash clowd coming from Iceland overhead the Netherlands.
This will not only affect FF, but all military and commercial flying in Dutch airspace.

As they say: this was to be expected :( For more information on the ash-cloud: there are some interesting links in the EHAM/Schiphol section for today on this board.. (now that we all have time to spare :| )

Anyone here with good meteo-contacts that might shed a light on how long this cloud is expected to stay with us?

All UK controlled air space will be closed, except for emergency flights.

Until the airspace has been opened again, that is when the ash could has been passed.

Dutch airspace will close at 1900LT
Uk airspace from 1200UTC
Norwegian and Danish already closed or closing
Assume makes an ASS of U and ME.

I wouldn't count on that. Rumours (on the base) are cancellation today and tomorrow

thanx. and what about next week? is there anyone who can give any info on how big this ash cloud is and how long it will be over our heads? do we need to think in terms of hours, days or weeks?

Vliegbasis Leeuwarden annuleert oefening
LEEUWARDEN - De vliegbasis in Leeuwarden heeft donderdag een oefening geannuleerd wegens de wolk met vulkanische as die richting Nederland drijft.
Dat meldt een woordvoerster van de Leeuwarder basis donderdag. De Amerikaanse, Poolse, Duitse, Noorse, Finse en Zweedse luchtmacht zijn in Leeuwarden om twee weken gezamenlijk te trainen.
Volgens de woordvoerster is het heel jammer dat een ‘belangrijke oefening’ nu niet doorgaat. De vliegers zouden donderdag met jachtvliegtuigen boven de Noordzee vliegen. Ze weet nog niet of de oefening later alsnog wordt gedaan.
De Koninklijke Luchtmacht is gastheer tijdens de jaarlijks terugkerende oefening Frisian Flag. Van 12 tot en met 23 april beoefenen de vliegers vluchten voor zowel luchtverdediging als luchtsteun aan grondtroepen. In totaal vliegen ongeveer vijftig jachtvliegtuigen missies van vliegbasis Leeuwarden.

Kan iemand bevestigen of de rest van Frisian Flag is gecanceld of alleen de donderdagse sessies...

Volgens mij alleen vandaag en mogelijk morgen. Volgende week zal wss alles weer vliegen. De phantoms uitgezonderd... Maar dat is een ander verhaal.

ben dinsdag naar leeuwarden geweest. net op tijd. komende dinsdag een tripje naar wittmund op stapel staan. maar eens zien hoe die aswolk zich de komende dagen houdt ;-)
