Advocate General Roy Baynath-Panday who is in charge of the inquiry of the deadly crash with another Bluw Wing aircraft at Lawa Antoni ( near Benzdorp ) in the south-eastern part of Suriname, on the 3rd of April 2008 says that the official report of the commission who investigates that deadly crash is not yet official ready; Baynath-Panday states that in that report there are serious questions about the state of the Antonov aircrafts Bluw Wing uses for there operations.
According to unconfirmed rumors, the dead of chief inspector John Viera, who recently was killed ( shot execution style ) on the balcony of his home in Commewijne, had to do with the overall state of the Blue Wing fleet, especially the state of the Antonov Blue Wing is flying with.
According to Blue Wing CEO Amichand Jhauw, the company will continue there operations today from the base at Zorg & Hoop ( SMZO ).
Eyewitnesses from the village of Puketi ( at the banks of the Tapanahonyriver ) tell what they have seen : We heard an approaching aircraft and hurried to the airstrip to welcome them.
We thought that Ronnie was coming ( Ronnie Brunswijk – former guerrilla fighter and now national assembly representative ) . But strangely it was flying to high to land at Puketi says Mena Pentoe ( a local living at Puketi ). “Suddenly the aircraft took a steep dive with the nose pointed down – we ran into our house and covered the children under our bed. And within 5 seconds………BOEM………and a complete silence. The aircraft must have exploded before it hit the ground !
Another witness named Tikio Adeni Velanti, tells his storey : . “I saw that one of the propellers of the aircraft was one fire. Shortly after I told other villagers that the engine seemed to be on fire our local village chief came to tell us that the aircraft went down.
Meanwhile rescue operations have begun.
A team from the National Coordination Centre for Disaster Control ( NCCR ) has arrived on the scene of the accident; this with the help of the neighbouring French Gendarme ( Military ) who was the First to arrive at the scene. Together with locals the bodies of the 8 who died in the crash have been transported already through the dense jungle across the Tapanahonyriver.
The bodies have already arrived at SMZO located in the heart of the neighborhood of Zorg & Hope, a suburb of Paramaribo, the capitol of Suriname.
