The Royal Netherlands Navy Takes Delivery Of Its First NH90 NFH

AgustaWestland, a Finmeccanica company, is pleased to announce on behalf of NH Industries the delivery of the first NH90 NFH helicopter to the Royal Netherlands Navy during an official ceremony held today at AgustaWestland’s Vergiate plant in Italy. The Royal Netherlands Navy has ordered a total of 20 NH90 NFH aircraft. Today’s event marks the first delivery of a naval NH90 NFH variant to a customer.

The Dutch, French, Italian, Norwegian and Belgian navies have ordered a total of 111 NH90 NFH naval helicopters which will give operators a dramatic improvement in operational capability and mission effectiveness, thanks to the outstanding technology incorporated in to the NH90. The NH90 NFH variant is primarily designed for autonomous Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) and Anti Surface Warfare (ASuW) missions. The comprehensive mission equipment packages allow a wide range of additional missions to be performed including Search and Rescue (SAR), maritime patrol, vertical replenishment, troop transport, medical evacuation and amphibious support roles. The helicopter is designed for day and night operations in adverse weather conditions from the decks of ships. Due to its weight and dimensions, the deck-lock system, the deck traversing system and the automatic blade and tail folding system, it can operate from small frigates even in high sea states.

The NH90 is the most successful European helicopter programme ever. A total of 529 firm orders have been placed by 19 armed forces in 14 countries including The Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal , Sweden, Finland, Norway, Greece, Spain and Belgium in Europe, as well as Australia, New Zealand and Oman overseas and 44 NH90 helicopters are already in service today. The NH90, developed in the TTH utility transport and NFH naval versions, proves the ideal solution to meet requirements from many potential additional customers worldwide for a number of duties. The NH90 programme is managed by NAHEMA (NATO Helicopter Management Agency) representing France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands and Portugal, and by the NH Industries industrial consortium comprising AgustaWestland (32%), Eurocopter (62.5%) and Fokker Aerostructures (5.5%). In the framework of the NH90 programme, AgustaWestland is responsible for the production of the main transmission, tail drive shafts, hydraulic system, automatic flight control system, rear ramp, rear fuselage, the T700/6E1 engine solution installation and on-board computers. Furthermore, AgustaWestland is also responsible for the overall integration of the NH90 naval mission system for all NFH variants.

Van een marine manneke heb ik vorig jaar begrepen dat de 12/8 verdeling later terug gedraaid is naar 20 NFH, waarbij 8 kisten zonder marine missie apparatuur geleverd worden.
De apparatuur is echter gemakkelijk over te zetten in een andere heli.

How many years late and how many millions of Euros over budget is this helicopter?.

If this is a sucess,I`d hate to see a failure.

Klopt, in een interview met GRAS heeft de commandant DHC aangegeven dat er 20 NFH's besteld zijn, waarvan er acht zonder missie apparatuur (sonar) geleverd worden (door KLu aangeduid als TNFH).

Laatste info zegt dat de eerste NH-90 (in volledige configuratie) op 17 mei verwacht wordt op De Kooy.

Eerste NH90-helikopter overhandigd

De eerste van 20 nieuwe NH90-helikopters is vandaag overgedragen aan de Koninklijke Luchtmacht. De directeur van de Defensie Materieel Organisatie Lex Hendrichs overhandigde het eerste exemplaar op Maritiem Vliegkamp De Kooy aan plaatsvervangend Commandant Luchtstrijdkrachten, generaal-majoor Hans Wehren. De multi-inzetbare NH90 vervangt op termijn zowel de Lynx maritieme helikopters als de AB-412-reddingshelikopters.
“De komst van de NH90 betekent een uitbreiding van de totale vloot. En dat is hard nodig”, vertelde Hendrichs tijdens de overhandiging, “want nog steeds is helikoptercapaciteit een schaars goed, ook binnen de NAVO en de EU. En we kunnen niet zonder. Onze grondtroepen worden er mee verplaatst, bevoorraad en er door beschermd. Piraten, drugssmokkelaars en andere bedreigingen van de vrije zee worden ermee onderkend en onderschept.”

Fregattenhelikopters
Van de 20 NH90’s worden 12 bestemd voor taken vanaf fregatten, zoals ondersteuning en onderzeebootbestrijding. In 2012 neemt de NH90 ook het patiëntenvervoer van en naar de Waddeneilanden over van de AB-412 en de Lynx. De andere 8 toestellen komen beschikbaar voor transporttaken, zowel op zee als boven land. Het nu overhandigde toestel met registratienummer N-110 wordt in eerste instantie gebruikt voor opleiding en training en voor operationele tests en evaluaties. De 12 fregattenhelikopters krijgen Maritiem Vliegkamp De Kooy als thuisbasis, de overige 8 worden op Vliegbasis Gilze-Rijen gestationeerd.

Robuust
De nieuwe aanwinst is groter dan zijn voorganger. Daardoor is het bijvoorbeeld mogelijk om grotere speciale eenheden van het Korps Mariniers aan boord te brengen van schepen die bijvoorbeeld, zoals recent, door piraten zijn overmeesterd. De NH90 is uitgerust met infrarood- en nachtzichtsystemen en kan zodoende ook bij duisternis en slecht weer opereren. Met de hypermoderne sonar kunnen onderzeeboten op grote afstand worden opgespoord. Dankzij zijn bewapening van 2 torpedo´s en een 12,7 mm zware mitrailleur heeft de NH90 grote vuurkracht en een robuuste uitstraling. Het toestel beschikt ook over zelfverdedigingssystemen in de vorm van flares tegen (radargeleide) raketten.

Verbetering helikoptercapaciteit
Met de komst van de NH90 wordt de Nederlandse helikoptercapaciteit versterkt en daarmee de operationele inzetbaarheid van de krijgsmacht verder verbeterd. Ook past dit binnen het streven de expeditionaire mogelijkheden van het leger uit te breiden en om Europese en NAVO-tekorten ten aanzien van helikoptercapaciteiten te verminderen. De helikopters komen onder beheer van het Defensie Helikopter Commando.
