BELGRADE -- A Serbian Air Force airplane went down today in central Serbia, but the pilot ejected and survived, said reports.

The aircraft was identified as Orao, and it took off earlier on Thursday from Lađevci airport near the town of Kraljevo.

Media reports suggested that the plane went down into Gružansko Lake.

According to reports, the pilot is in a stable condition and is treated at the VMA military clinic in Belgrade.

The Defence Ministry said that the crash was caused by a technical malfunction.

Serbian police (MUP) Emergency Situations Department confirmed that the accident took place, and that the pilot survived.
