Holland: KNVvL not happy at all with IVW airshow message....

Small translation: the Dutch equivalent of AOPA/Popular Flying Association/Air League has complained about a press statement made by Dutch Civil Aviation Authorities.
The Dutch CAA inferred that airshow organisers should adher to regulations concerning these air events.

The KNVvL (Royal Dutch Association for Aviation) states there was no reason to issue such a statement, which could be interpreted as a "warning".
It seems there was some kind of "incident" involving an aerobatics pilot of which the KNVvL says it wasn't that much of an "incident" at all.
The Dutch CAA may have wanted to somehow "showcase" an incident and point to a particular pilot while the KNVvL states nothing really happened.

I am very glad to read that there is already official resistance towards possible unnecessary interference by the Dutch Civil Aviation Authority towards airshows. :worship:
By 2001 the rules had become way too restrictive, only being loosened in 2004...
KNVvL noemt IVW onrustzaaier

14-08-2010

What exactly is the "incident" the message is referencing? I'm really wondering what happened, as the message doesn't mention any details at all.

Cheers,
Herbert

Nor does http://www.scramble.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=65552 which is about the original message. I think, now this out of the blue message is out and about, someone from the authorities should tell what kind of incident has happened, also to give other pilots a chance to pay some extra attention to what might have gone wrong, in the interest of safety. (Extra head-up)

BTW scramble is the only place where I read about this. Normally "normal" press would jump onto the occasion if something happens at airshows or airshow related events. It gives a feeling (at least, to me) something about this is way too overdone, especially as no one in the airshowbusiness has come up with more specific info after the first (IVW) action. (Or is IVW trying to come up with some annual airshowreviews, like the CAA always does at the end of the season?) But this is completely played via Luchtvaartnieuws.nl, (KNVvL seems to have reacted exclusively to them) and nothing else. Should be thought about to.

BTW, There hasn't been any investigation by the Onderzoeksraad Voor Veiligheid this year in airshow related incidents, nor is one ongoing, according to their website, so it might not be to much what happened.

Edit: Yes, this message tells a little bit more. But it's still unclear what location on what date they're refering to.

What may play a part in the background, a "rightish" cabinet is being formed of which it is widely expected that deep cuts will be made into governement agencies, including disbanding complete departments. What we have seen in the past few weeks is that all sorts of public organisations in e.g. the broadcasting and third world aid businesses have pointed towards their (alleged) indispensability.
Maybe IVW is afraid of its dominant position and wants to prove that it serves a purpose? How else to do that than with a press release like this, pointing at their important work.
Like previous posters, I can't think of any incident that would warrant such a release. After all, apart from the KLu Open Days, what more airshows have we seen this year?

Not a whole lot, but still airshows, not that I saw any incidents during these shows.

A lot of events I overlooked, I see  Sorry...
In none of these anyone did see "problems" that would warrant an "ukaze" from the IVW?

This year 19 Dutch events were listed in the showdates pages (including the cancelled ones). So it takes only a few balloon + light stuff events to complete the number.
