On Sept. 18th a temporary airstrip will be operational between Veenendaal and De Klomp. I learned from the organizers that at least the Spitfire and the B-25 will land there and can be admired by the public. The airstrip will be about 10 km from the demonstration zone. On Thursday July 29th. it was 100 years ago that that the first motorized flight took place in The Netherlands. This occasion was commemorated during a short ceremony at the place where the first flight took off. This place is now a wooded area on the outskirts of Ede. Bleriot XI PH-BLE of Stichting Vroege Vogels was put at that place during the ceremony. Amongst many officials also the son of the pilot of the first flight, the now 87-year old Maurits Hilgers, was present. He could vividly remember the big occasion on which his father wrote history. For a report (in Dutch) on this, including pictures, see: http://www.edestad.nl/page/Lokaal/Regio ... 71979.news" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I am a little bit curious WHERE that airstrip will be?
Will they shut down the A12 for some hours.
Not much space left in between Veenendaal and de Klomp !
First a correction to my post of Aug. 4th: ..... first motorized flight took place in The Netherlands by a Dutchman. The first motorized flight already took place in 1909 in Etten-Leur by a Frenchman.
With regard to the temporary airstrip: my guesswork says it will be parallel to the N224, between De Komp and Ede. As soon as I know more, I will post
Well is that bird already in the air then? last time i had contact with him (couple of months ago) it stil was being refitted it's wing due to the crash in Germany last year..

Does this mean that this year Market Garden will only be on Saturday, and only in the morning? From previous years I seem to remember four para droppings over two days (if I'm not mistaking)..
