Göteborg Aero Show, Sweden 28-29 August 2010

Post by daniel-k »

This year the Göteborg Aero Show celebrate the 100th anniversary of Swedish Aviation.

If everything turns out well, we expect to see the full range of Saab jet fighters in the air: Tunnan, Lansen, Draken, Viggen and Gripen - as well as Team 60 (fingers crossed), Hercules, C-17, choppers etc. from the Air Force. Basically everything that the Air Force & the Historic Flight are able to bring.

A number of international display teams & performers have been invited: Frecce Tricolori, PC-7 Team and the Danish Baby Blue are confirmed.

On the historic side, we have Mikael Carlson with his fantastic machines, Spitfire, Mustang, Moths, Dakotas, Hunter, Vampire etc. ...airliners, aerobatics, etc. - in total some 100 aircraft on the ground and in the air.

Note that we have some basic but appreciated spotters facilities.

Welcome to Göteborg!

Unsurprisingly the Viggen disappeared from participants list only two weeks before airshow.

True, it's no surprise. There has been a stated questionmark for a flying appearance by the Viggen all along. Closer to the event, some of the planned participants can go from plausible to unlikely - nothing strange at all. That's why the early participants lists are called provisional.

The airworthiness issue is simply taking more time than expected. While it's a loss for all us Viggen fans, most of all I feel sorry for all the hard working guys at the historic flight ops. They have a fully operable aircraft and it's all just a matter of lagging HQ decisions.

It would have been better not to announce it without confirmation by the authorities!? Because as you say it has never been confirmed!

The confirmation for Viggen is still in process and not likely to be finished before the airshow. A participation list should be no wishlist IMHO. Nobody has problems with failures or cancellations, this happens everywhere. Call me pedantic, but I feel like taken for a ride. And I'm for sure not alone with my opinion. :|

No Viggen, no C-17, no Hkp 4...

Is there already airshow date for 2011 published?

There never was any flying demo of an Hkp 4 announced, was there ?

If things turn out badly in 2011 ( see http://www.scramble.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=66052" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) this may even be one of the last times you'll see a Saab Lansen in the air for a long time to come...

I'm sorry, the Hkp 4 image on the website was certainly an optical illusion...

Tough luck, in comparison to Viggen for me personally only a consolation prize. It does not change my preferences, although it would be a pity if the Lansen display expired.

As the weather predictions are really bad for the weekend (partly heavy rain on both days, from various sources) I wonder if the airshow will take place as planned if this comes true? :?

But if I have a look at the following sources they say nearly the same, also from Sweden/Norway:

http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/02526.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
