To be precise, the home port of Mt Whitney is Gaeta, halfway between Rome and Naples. The MH-60 is based at Napoli-Capodichino and is the only US Navy chopper based in Europe. As my wife is from Naples, I am in that area a few times a year and I noted during my holiday, which ran from 7 till 22nd of august and just a little south of Gaeta, that Mt Whitney was not in port in those weeks. I also missed the MH-60 this year which during previous holidays could always be seen once or twice overflying the beach going Naples-Gaeta v.v. Fortunately several CL415's doing scoops right in front of us made up for that...De Mount Whitney is het vlaggeschip/commandoschip van de Amerikaanse Zesde Vloot en hoort thuis in Italië... de helo zou dan dus een MH-60S Knighthawk moeten zijn...
