It all has to do with "buurtfeesten" of regional events near the airfield. The RNLAF made promises some years ago not to disturb the events. The RNLAF is committed to be and to stay a good neighbor in the area.

I remember the Volkel Open Day of 1989 was in late September also. Weather sucked, but the static did certainly not

Same weekend as the Sanicole Airshow airshow probably...

Volkel 2000 also was in September.

Moving Leeuwarden to September will make the timespan to 2013 a bit shorter as 2012 wont see an airshow. I think it is the same weekend as the annual market garden remembrance

This is confirmed by Public Affairs at Leeuwarden.

reasons as stated: town celebrations in June and early September, Summer months not an option due to staffing issues concerning Summer vacations.

Well the weather in june and july is no guarantee either! And since a lot of the European shows are being held in june, I think it is a good thing that this show will be in september.

To confirm the above messages, following is the official message released by MODNL through her website:

Luchtmachtdagen volgend jaar in september

De Luchtmachtdagen van 2011 worden gehouden op 16 en 17 september en vinden plaats op Vliegbasis Leeuwarden. Tijdens het evenement krijgt de bezoeker een overzicht van het materieel, de taken en de werkwijze van de luchtmacht van vandaag de dag.
Traditiegetrouw vinden de Luchtmachtdagen plaats in juni. Een aantal gemeentes in de omgeving van de vliegbasis houden echter in de dezelfde maand dorpsfeesten. De luchtmacht houdt hier rekening mee en heeft daarom besloten om in 2011 af te wijken van de vaste datum en uit te wijken naar september.

Vliegshow
Tijdens de open dagen van de luchtmacht vindt onder meer een vliegshow plaats en worden verschillende vliegtuigen, helikopters en geleide wapens tentoongesteld. De deelnemers aan de vliegshow komen uit binnen- en buitenland.

The Airborne Memorial at Ede is possible also that weekend, just like every year.......

Shorty summary: The 'Church and Peace Foundation' is mad at minister van Middelkoop for organizing the Open Days during the 'Peace Week'. The foundation hopes he will find another date for the event.
