A FUEL leak yesterday forced a Greek C130 aircraft to make an emergency landing at Larnaca Airport.
The military plane – which was coming from Elefsina in Greece - had been transporting officers and conscripts of the Greek army (ELDYK), who arrived in Cyprus on a rotation.
The incident occurred at a little before noon, when the C130 informed Larnaca’s
control tower that it had a fuel leak, just 15 minutes before it was due to land.
The airport’s authorities and operations centre went immediately on alert and launched emergency procedures. The airport’s runway was lined with fire engines, ambulances and members of other implicated services.
The plane eventually landed safely. It remained at Larnaca Airport, where it was checked by mechanics who located the leak.
Hermes Airports’ spokesman Adamos Aspris said yesterday: “We confirm that Larnaca’s international airport was put on alert this morning to deal with an emergency incident.”
He added that no further details could be offered, “due to the fact that it was a military
aircraft”.
The soldiers deplaned and departed in an ELDYK bus to go their final destination in Malounda
