Two Die in Military Plane Crash in Mexico
MEXICO CITY – The two-man crew of a military plane was killed when the
aircraft crashed in the Pacific Ocean off Guerrero state, the Mexican
Defense Secretariat said.
The air force Pilatos PC-7 went down Wednesday after taking off from Pie de
la Cuesta, a district in the resort city of Acapulco.
The PC-7, which was participating in an anti-drug operation, radioed that it
was having an emergency at 300 meters (around 1,000 feet) and then went down
in the sea, the secretariat said.
Army troops recovered the bodies of the crewmen from the plane’s wreckage.
President Felipe Calderon has deployed 50,000 soldiers and 20,000 Federal
Police officers across Mexico since declaring war on the country’s drug
cartels in late 2006. EFE
