Photo forum: multiple topics?

Post by Key »

Split from this one.

NO. This forum deliberately has no policy to keep topics, eh... in one topic ;)
It is up to the poster to join an existing topic, or start his/her own. The possible benefits, or disadvantages, of starting a new topic are for the poster (and both exist, I can tell you). If you don't feel like looking at more Kecskemét photos, either don't click an existing topic again, or don't click a new one. The title is obvious enough.
Additionally, this specific user happened to receive requests from others not to post in 'their' topics in the past, I have been told... So I can see why Peter started a new topic. Just enjoy it.
Still, nice pictures.
YES! 8)

It's enjoyed, don't worry. It's just, I like all pics of one and the same airshow in one topic. Easier to watch. And all the pics wich have something special will stand out anyway, a new topic won't contribute extra to that. What if we all started a new topic from every single shot we took on one day? If their's no rule on new topics from the same airshows, their's probably no rule about the former mentioned also. I hate to be a pencilpusher, but someone could get that idea ...
Anyway, didn't know or remember about the lack of the 'new-topic-rule'. No sweat 8) .

I will continue in another place in this forum, with placing some shots of Reims today (in only one topic ).

Still, nice pictures.

Opening one's own topic about a venue about which somebody else already opened one is exactly how it should be done with the neighbours of UKAR for instance. There, posting in somebody else's topic is called "hi-jacking". I did it once in my innocence... There is something to be said for this.
Anyway, nice shots Peter, a place I could have visited but didn't this time.

Hans.

Obviously, there are pros and cons. Much of these depend on taste.

Facts:
- We actually have no rule whatsoever for any forum on this board to keep topics concentrated. We simply have the request, and actively work on this, to keep single specified topics in all Spotting forums. That is all.
- Making it a rule, or even request, to keep single topics in other forums requires keeping an eye on that, it will cause discussion (should a photo topic about a state visit at EHAM be part of an existing day topic? and even so if the visit spreads over multiple days?) and it will require exemptions (if we want to 'allow' someone to open, say, an arty-farty topic on an already covered airshow). All of these things, a moderator wants to avoid as much as possible.

Obviously, if the majority of users wishes a guideline like this, we will consider implementing it. For the time, I think we are doing fine without it.

Please ... keeping in mind the general ideas lately ... The fewer the rules the better. Eventhough I'm a legal councelar .... let's keep away from any rules but those wich are absolutely neccaserry. And ... formulate them wisely, obvious, explainable and comprihandable to everyone. So ... I will hail the phrase "For the time, I think we are doing fine without it".

For me it is annoying if it happens like at FF, One big mud of pictures from everyone just at one pile. If you want to comment on some pics it is just as it is aimed to someone else, which can do some bad to the overal atmosphere at the board in total.

If memory serves correct, we have had this discussion before.
The fact that there are no rules about this, doesn't mean you can't use common sence.

Why is it necessary to post in seperate topics if you have photo's about the same subject.
The answer is simple: EGO.

Yes, i prefer just one topic for a RIAT, FF, etc. It's easier to compare photo's, to comment and to browse the topic.

If you want to post your photo's and want all the attention, post your pics on Airliners.net or other site like that.
If you just want to share your pics with the rest of 'us', post your pics in an existing topic when possible.

And as for the previous named UK websites: this is Scramble. @ Scramble we share... ;) We don't 'own' a topic....

Well, in my personal opinion, creating multiple topics on the same subject is even counter productive: when I want to see some images of one particular subject (for instance the already mentioned RIAT), I just check the first topic I see on this, and most likely scroll it all the way through all postings, no matter how many posters. But I'm not going to do a search for topic number 2... or 8 or 9!
Point I'm trying to make, is that when all postings are grouped together in one topic, the more likely it is more people will see your pictures.
Apart from that, I second the remarks by Chris, including the 'ego' part :-)
