Thailand December 2010: spotting possibilities?

For business purposes I will be in Thailand the beginning of December (starting 29th of November, end date not yet confirmed). I will be flying to (and out of) Bangkok, and the work will take me to the region of Rayong. I will most likely be staying in a hotel in the region of Pattaya for most of the time (no real choice). Perhaps I could move to Bangkok later in the trip, depending on what I can do there.

I am planning to stay a little bit longer and would like to use this rare opportunity for me to do some plane spotting in Thailand. Can anyone tell me something about possibilities in Bangkok, and perhaps also the Pattaya/Rayong region? In addition some advice about what to do, how spotting is regarded there, how to approach it, transportation, etc. etc. etc. Any information would be helpful.
