Maybe you can keep an eye on this one They run a tour to MAKS and in the past they also had a day at a different spot with no problems about the sun. Unfortunately their schedule on this trip isn't up yet, but maybe it's an idea.

Better check all tours going to the MAKS like from this list or try it the private way!

Dear Efa,

The public is situated at this location: 55.561432, 38.144574 Logic dictates that for a major part of the day, the sun will be in your face. However; MAKS is selling very expensive tickets for a grandstand on the other side of the runway.

With a little luck however; you might find a window of opportunity (early or late at the day). This was taken last year: (from the public area)

Hi Efa

In 2009 i did it on my own and that went very well, keep in mind Moscow is not so cheap (hotels could be expensive). Public transport though is very cheap and their is always a helpful person to show you where you need to go if you get lost. Indeed the MAKS is not the most ideal Airshow to go to but a great Russian experience, if your lucky you can take nice pictures but the sun is difficult. Lets say you need to be creative.

On the day i went in 2009 the weather wasn't ideal (rainy and overcast the whole day) but that might have been good standing in the public eare
(FYI these aerial pictures where made with at least 500mm)

The MAKS air show had on their website that you could take the train from (I think) Kazanskii train station wich you can reach by the (cheap)metro (Komsomol'skaya Station). on public days their is a special train to Zhukovski train station where buses are standing by to take you to the air show. The ticket you purches in the trainstation itself. Be warned to go early as the security is painstakingly slow it it could take more (much more) then an hour to actual get into the air show area.

I did my pictures from the public side both days but there was a stand in the opposite side (you can see in the picture). In Sunday morning speaker of the show invited the photographers to visit the stand. I think the cost was no more than 100 EUR. By my estimation this stand is nearer to the runway than the public line. If the weather is sunny the best position is the stand especially in the afternoon.
