First RAAF Super Hornet squadron operational

The Royal Australian Air Force has declared its first F/A-18F Super Hornet squadron operational.

December 8: Following the withdrawal of the F-111C on December 3, the Royal Australian Air Force has declared its first F/A-18F Super Hornet squadron operational.

Based at RAAF Amberley in Queensland, the RAAF now has 15 aircraft following the delivery of four more aircraft yesterday from Boeing’s facility in St Louis, USA,
transiting via Travis Air Force Base in California, Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii and Guam.

Three of the aircraft will be the first three to be configured to accommodate the Growler electronic attack system (EA-18G).
