According to the home-page of the TuAF it seems that Izmir is open the 4th of June, and that the 5th there will be a show over the harbour/beach of Izmir? So only one day at the airbase...
But I could be wrong.
We have announced the rough details in TURAF's website. However there are some fresh changes in the schedule. The displays will be at the 2nd Main Jet Base Command (Çiğli / Izmir) both on 04th and 05th of June. A website specific to the "Air Show Türkiye" will be available soon.
Besides the international "Air Show Türkiye", there will be national air shows in Eskişehir and Diyarbakır. We are still working on the details. However it is not certain yet whether the shows will be open to public or not. Current information about this activity as well as the other 100th anniversary activities will be presented in our website soon.
As for the F-16 Solo Display Team, which has been established to present the maneuver capability of the F-16 aircraft and the training level of the Turkish pilots, it will perform various displays both in Turkey and abroad. Website dedicated to the F-16 Solo Display Team will be available in early 2011.
Air Shows will be conducted to celebrate the anniversaries of the foundation of the 22nd Air Force Command (Diyarbakır) on 08 May 2011 and 1st Air Force Command (Eskişehir) on 22 May 2011.
And:
An International Air Show will be conducted at the 2nd Main Jet Base Command (Çiğli / İzmir) on 04-05 June 2011 and the show will be open to public.
On behalf of the Centennial Team and the Turkish Airforce, we would like to invite all the aviation enthousiasts and photographers to take part in the very first Spottersday in Turkey.
This event will take place in the same week as the 100th Anniversary Airshow, "Air Show Turkiye 2011" at Cigli Airbase, near Izmir.
There will be two dates where we would like to the spotters; on friday june 3th for the arrivals and rehursals of that day, and on monday june 6th for the departures.
The spottersday will become a worldclass event for all the aviation enthousiasts, with a very attractive package, and superb locations at the airbase to take your pictures.
More information will be posted in time, but here is a little teaser just to warm you up:
You will be able to photograph nearly every type in the inventory of the Turkish Airforce.
Foreign participation is very broad and exciting, and the first 4 countries with aircraft participation for you are: Greece, Algeria, Belarus and Pakistan.
No info on actual aircraft, but this article in Hurriyet Daily mentions 58 countries will be present at the airshow, of which 33 will be as observers only (no planes). That still leaves an impressive 25 countries. Unfortunately, only Greece is named as being there, no other countries.
In 2011 the Turkish Airforce will celebrate it's 100th anniversary. On behalf of the Centennial Team we would like to invite you all to the highlight of the celebrations, the International Airshow at the Airbase of Cigli, near Izmir.
The airshow will be open to the general public, is entirely free! and takes place on the weekend of the 4th & 5th of June.
In time we will post first hand information and updates for you, but the event promises already to become thé most exciting airshow of the 2011 season.
The USAF Thunderbirds will start their European tour at this airshow, but many more exciting airshowparticipants will be announced.
I've noticed that there are already questions and rumours about the airshow on this forum, trough this post we'll try to give you new confirmed information as soon as it's relased!
Besides the international "Air Show Türkiye", there will be national air shows in Eskişehir and Diyarbakır. We are still working on the details. However it is not certain yet whether the shows will be open to public or not. Current information about this activity as well as the other 100th anniversary activities will be presented in our website soon.
From a friend:
I have just spoken to the Turkish Air force Attaché at their London embassy, and according to him neither of these events [Eskişehir and Diyarbakır] are open to the public. They are for TuAF and families.
I questioned why they are described on the site as “National Days”, and he said that is in contrast to the International event at Cigli, where foreign guests are allowed.
I'm thinking going to the airshow. Anyone can tell whether it is possible to walk from Cigli to the air base or if there will be buses from Izmir or Cigli for the festival?
The official website should have been online already for a full month....but now they decided to make a complete new website about the Turkish Airforce, and the airshow/spottersday is just gonna be a part of it.
And for an update, well I can give you a nice one...if you like aerobatic teams : 10! will be present in all with Aguilas and Patrouille de France from Europe as new editions.
But you get to see those all around at various airshows, so I guess you all will be more excited about the first participation of a new team for Europe; the Pakistan Airforce 'The Sherdils' will make their debut flying K-8 jettrainers ! They will only fly 1 airshow in Europe and have chosen Izmir to do so
More teams to be confirmed later....
