Spanish Falcon Epilogue

Post by Katabatik »

First of all, moderators feel free to move this post wherever it belongs.
Secondly if you do not give a damn about the spanish falcon story, do not bother reading.

The emergency call for the Falcon has been (I think) elucidated. All the credits to Pjotrtje who found out what (most probably) happened. As a matter of fact something similar happened to him years ago.

So let me run the sequence of events : on monday 17-01 I went to the slopes. Normally I lock out/disable most of my scanner frequencies except those of EHGR when I am over there. Unfortunately, I forgot to disable my NATO frequency group (verified afterwards). At some point in time, there is an aircraft (spanish falcon) calling for a (simulated ?) emergency on NATO frequency. Since I am thinking that I am scanning EHGR exclusively ( and I was wrong), I become extra alert and am certain I am going to witness an exciting arrival  ... shortly after (a couple of seconds) my scanner picks up a 'clear to land on rwy 28' on an EHGR freq. (for another aircraft). And guess what, a moment later, I see the aircraft (thinking it is the falcon) showing up in the cloudy sky. Bingo ! here is the Falcon :D . As far as I can see the fixed wing aircraft looks perfectly fine and approach normally. I am a bit disappointed because I was expecting some actions (crashtender, smokes,...). Anyway civil aircraft is not my cup of tea so I decide to move on to the Apache nearby.

Since I am not into civil spotting (no interest) and have no knowledge of civil aircraft, I can not tell exactly what it is ( will probably never know either). On the other hand my limited knowledge of civil aircraft does not prevent me from differentiating between a touringcar and an aircraft and as far as I know touringcars do not fly

But from now on (whatever it might be) : I will first shoot a photo and then watch.

Hope to have you informed.
