First aircraft lands on 'Juan Carlos I'
Spain has a new aircraft carrier.

The Spanish Navy has confirmed that the first helicopters have landed on its new aircraft carrier Juan Carlos I, delivered on September 30 last year.
The landings took place on February 8 by an SH-3D Sea King from 5 Escuadrilla, a Hughes 369M from 6 Escuadrilla and an AB212 from 3 Escuadrilla, all based at Rota near Cadiz.
This is the first step of the ship’s certification process that will also see AV-8B Harriers from 9 Escuadrilla land aboard in the coming weeks.
Juan Carlos I is designed to carry and operate up to 30 medium and heavy helicopters or up to 12 AV-8B + Harriers plus a similar number of helicopters.
