Scramble 382 is out now!

Post by Melchior Timmers »

Hi all,

The March 2011 issue of Scramble has been released this week!

In this month's edition features specials about:

- Helicopter Weapon Instruction Course 2010
Flight operations in hostile area's can result in shot down aircraft and flight crew on the ground behind enemy lines. To train its Cougar, Apache and Chinook crews in assisting commando forces rescue these possible hostages, the Royal Netherlands Air Force conducts annual Helicopter Weapon Instruction Courses (HWIC). Our editor Piet Luijken reports from a 'hostile' campsite in the north of the Netherlands were parts of the training took place.

- Early years of the E-2 Hawkeye
Again a great report by our editor Jan van Waarde. This time an aircraft still in service with various countries worldwide of which the earlier models have not been reported thoroughly yet: The Grumman E-2 Hawkeye. In this 28 page report, all A and B model airframes and their individual history are mentioned, accompanied by many pictures.

Our monthly returning topics:
- Movements and trips Netherlands, Belgium + Rest of the World, civil and military.
- The latest news, both civil and military.
- Updates on the world's aircraft fleets, civil and military.
- Aircraft mishaps in Dustpan and Brush.
- Wrecks & Relics.
- Warbirds.
- Showreports
- Scramble Intelligence Service.
- Triptease

We are currently building a new website that will replace the one launched in 1993. If you want to be kept up-to-date about the progress we are making and other Scramble news, join Scramble at one of the social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

Dear Scramble-editors,

I found my Scramble copy on the doormat today and although the quality of the content seems fine as usual, the print quality is dreadful, especially for the pictures. Some pictures seem extremely overexposed, others are way too black or very grainy. Am I the only one or has something gone wrong at the printer?

Best regards/vriendelijke groeten,

Bas van Oorschot

PS don't want to be an 'azijnzeiker'...it's my first complaint ever in twenty-or-so years of membership. Nothing but :respect: for what you deliver every month.

Bas,

There are indeed some problems with the quality of some of the pictures. At this moment we are sorting out if this was a problem with photo editing or with printing of the magazine.

Thanks for your feedback.

I would like to offer my compliments to Jan for once again producing such a fantastic article once again! I think I last complimented him personally at
Gilze-Rijen last year, but I think he deserves a statue for his excellent research!!!

Just some extra information in order to help find the cause of the problem, here a little more information on my copy:

-Pictures in the HWIC article are not 100%, but still decent compared to some others;

-Pictures in te civil movements elsewhere section seem overexposed. For example in the picture of the Learjet on page 21 you can hardly see where the top of the fuselage ends and the skies begin, it is just all white.

-Pictures on page 130 and 131 of the (EXCELLENT!) article on the Hawkeye are all way too black BUT so are all the letters on these two pages, these two pages seem to be printed in bold script so the problem seems more a printing than a photo editing problem...Same for page 134 and 142 by the way.

Good luck in finding the cause and keep up the good work!

Bas
