March 28: Last week the last Royal Navy Westland Lynx Mk3 launched for the final time from the deck of a Royal Navy warship.

HMS Ocean, the Royal Navy’s helicopter carrier, disembarked Lynx HAS3S XZ693, which returned to Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton in Somerset.

The HAS3s will now be retained for training and ground-based duties.

This leaves the Lynx HMA8 in service operationally.

The Lynx will be replaced by the AgustaWestland A159 Wildcat and preparations are underway with 700W Naval Air Squadron, which is conducting intensive flying trials to introduce the Wildcat into service by 2015.
