Izmir 4-5 June - 100 years TuAF local activities

Remember that during the 90th years TuAF back in 2001, NO operational stuff came from Izmir, but Balikeshir and most homebases! The large formation flightpass, was just a (single) flightpass (and even to high) Would be VERY surpriced if they changed this for this year!!!!!

One thing I don't understand: in the information about the spotters' package the website says "Spotters will be able to photograph national and international participant aircraft, especially T-37 and T-38 aircraft which exclusively belong to Turkish Air Force in europe."

I've understood that the based aircraft will not be active during the arrival days. So, can we expect a T-37 and a T-38 on static display or (better) a tour in the shelterarea?

I would not be so extremely sure of that.

Maybe not in the numbers we would like to see, but AFAIK they will be active.

Post from Eric on Febr 12 on airshows.be:
"There will be a lot of T-37 & T-38 action as well, as I understood this was high on the wishlist of many spotters"
As said, this was posted on Febr 12 (a bit old maybe), but I haven't seen a contrary post otherwise than rumours from people not involved in organising this event. Also the official website mentions the presence of T-37 and T-38 (which is not strange as they are based at Izmir)

Or did I mis something??

I have been told that the local types (T-37, T-38 and KT-1) will be there in smaller numbers. I do not think (!) that they will actually fly.

I wouldn't be surprised if they moved quite a number of aircraft to other (surrounding) airbases in order to clear the space needed for the airshow. Also, training would likely to be affected from Wednesday till Tuesday the week after due to arrivals and rehearsels and departures, so they might opt to move the training elsewhere so they can continue.

The above is pure speculation though, but certainly not uncommon with airshows at training bases (see USA for example).

Anyhow, the show is still a great opportunity to watch (some) of these trainers...where else do you see those aircraft nowadays?

Cheers,

A word with Cigli tower confirmed that there are no trainingflights scheduled from wedsnesday till monday. This doesn't mean no T37/38 movements for the airshow of course.
I think we must wait from a answer from Eric in this case, there are not that much arrivals on Wednesday and Thursday i think so local flying will be possible, or even from the neighbour SF-260 base.....
We planned our trip from Wednesday till Saturday.......:)

They have 23 shelters including 13 big USAF type ones. In 2001 30 T-37's were put in the small shelters while the complete T-38 fleet was stowed away in the USAF shelters. Only one T-38 and one T-37 were visible on the static display. However, about a dozen of T-37s were at nearby Kaklic.

I would not count on too many trainers this week.

Falcon, what is Eric going to add to this? Why not believe the messenger? I made a call with Cigli tower and the head of ATC told me what I wrote. I love to be proven wrong, as I counted on some local action as well but Eric (who is providing some good airshow related info) isn't holly in the information alone. Don't want to start a discussion here but a bit disappointed in the non believers after putting effort in this....

By the way, Kaklic is supposedly NOT flying as well (locally that is). Again, love to be proven wrong.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately rumours seems to be right, but that is ok for me, as is is still an unique oppertunity to have rare closer look at the Turkish Air Force!!
