Palma (LEPA/PMI) - 2011 CIV

Post by ScottishSpotter »

INFO: Palma (LEPA/PMI)

Hi all

We`ve just returned from a three night stay in C`an Pastilla. We stayed in the well publicised Hotel Linda with rooms on the fifth floor giving a great view of arriving/departing traffic. Any room in the 520-528 range would be ideal. We had 527 which was perfect. Some of the parked biz could be read off from the corridor just outside the room. Departures/arrivals on 06L/24R could be read off no bother from the balcony.
The hotel food was ok but could have been warmer which is often the case when you go buffet style. We booked the room a couple of weeks prior to departure and the cost was just under £20 per person each night for half board. We got this through http://www.booking.com

Car hire is pretty good value in this part of the world. We had a small 5 door with AC for 65 euros with no excess to pay should you get a bump. However with most companies extra insurance can be taken out to cover the underside of the car, tyres and windscreen. The car was booked with http://www.recordrentacar.com who I`ve used before with no problems. The hotel has chargeable car parking but plenty spaces are available on the roads around the hotel but no doubt in the peak season this may be a problem.

As for spotting the usual locations around the perimeter are fine. The mound down towards the 24L end was pretty disgusting with tipped rubbish and the bushes are encroaching over the narrow road, so care should be taken driving down to avoid any scrapes. The MSCP was visited just before picking the car up and probably worth doing as most of the biz and freight aircraft can be read off from the top floor. A quick drive by of the GA area is fine for reading any newly arrived aircraft as is the bridge crossing the motorway which is accessed from a dirt track just behind the down (not far from the BP garage)

A log will follow very soon. Meanwhile I`ve stuck some pictures on my flickr site for anyone interested.

Cheers
Graham
