Düsseldorf EDDL 16-07-2011

Post by koendekruijf »

Hello all,

First time for me that I'm posting own made aircraft pictures here on scramble.nl
I went to Düsseldorf last Saturday and we had luck. No rain till 4 'o clock so enough time to make pictures.

Probably I need some more practice, but I've got the idea that all my pictures are a little bit soft. I hope you have tips for me what to do to get them better.
I'm using the following gear:
Sony A200 with Sigma 70-300mm F4-5,6 APO DG MACRO

The settings for the landing pictures are:
A10 for a large field of depth
S1/1000 to reduce movement blur
ISO200 to compensate the above settings

Auto focus is set to Continue-Automatic and Light calculation is set on spot, did some post processing in Lightroom but no sharping or USM in PS or paint.net

I hope you can give me more tips to improve.

I think the pictures are very good. But I have some tips also. Add some USM, add some contrast. And than you are there I think. I always strive to 5 picture. I think I would leave out 5 for sure because of heat haze from the engines. And I would leave out 7 (or 6) for obvious reason. That all your pictures are soft is caused by your lens. You are already there better APO version but still the lens is not great. Shoot with your camera and lens on a newspaper, so that the whole frame contains the newspaper. And than make pictures with every aperture setting. And than look where your lens is the most sharp. On this link it is already done for the same lens. But I recommand to do it your selve.

Cheers David

I like the way those photo's are, especially for the first time!

Only photo 6 has a bit to much exposure I think.

Hello all,

Thank you for your comments.

@Bendavid2

Thank you for your tips. I will try the newspaper tip later this week.
I've used some USM for the following picture:
Image

I made this picture in raw, but I see that when I convert them to 100% .JPEG and shrink them to 1400px wide that a lot of detail got lost. For example the tekst Boeing 737 is good readable on my computer, but after converting it is not sharp anymore.

@FlyTheWorld

Thank you, I'm still improving. I hope I can buy a better lens in the near future to get better pictures. (oke oke, not only the gear is responsible for the picture I have to improve myself as well. )

@Interceptorsaurus

Hello Jos,
You made nice pictures as well. I think we were standing next to each other. I was there with an Indonesian friend. You visit DUS often?
I didn't captured the Bizz jets. I'm mostly interested in commercial aviation. And besides, my lens didn't reach that far.
I saw a lot of Eurowings / Lufthansa regional planes standing at the parking position at the other side of the terminal.

Kind regards,
Koen
