Thank you all for the info!
I will try to go there next month. I am scheduled to be in tokyo 2 times in september.
If anyone has a good idea for an other place to go? I am always happy for info.
I depend on public transport so please keep this in mind ;)

Yokota near Fussa JR station
Iruma JASDF base, near a railway station is perhaps the best base to visit
Tachikawa JGSDF base just north of Tachikawa city(take a radio for the serials)
Tateyama JMSDF base about 2-3 Km from the JR station
Kisarazu JGSDF base on the outskirts of the city, again a radio is of use.
Kasumigaura JGSDF base as close to a JR station, but I can't remember the name.
Shimofusa JMSDF base is also close to a railway station.

The carrier air wing should come home in August.

Check google maps for railway stations. Zoom in and out at an airfield and you will find railway lines and stations. Use street view, lots off detail get clear like fences and so on.
Atsugi south wind / north side base is not to far from the station as far as I can remember. I can see our hotel (Toyoko Inn) which is nearby the station in the background at some photos. Atsugi has on both sides a spotters place. North side is behind the embedded railway line. You can use there 70 up to 200mm (1.6x body) (Orion / F-18) and for head on shots even more if you like.
Get in contact with some locals, because when the wind turns you can get a ride to the other side.

For Atsugi you do not need a step ladder.
For Iruma you do 1m+
For Shimofuse as well 60cm or so.

Hi All,

a query for 2 November 2011. On this date we saw a lone EA-6B parked on the US Navy platform, but due to distance and heat haze we were unable to decipher its identity. Can anyone supply an ID for this Prowler?

Thanks in Advance!

Richard.
