The USMC C-130s were here in support of a deployment of six F/A-18As of VMFA314 in connection to Talisman Sabre 2011. Does anybody know which Hornets were deployed here? I was able to read off a couple of codes: VW04, VW05, VW08, VW18. Any adsditions would be greatly appreciated!

You can check the Bu numbers for yourself by going to the USMC UDP page on the Japan thread here,or the Iwakuni page.

VW-18 is too high for this unit,though.

Thanks. As to VW-18: I did take a photo of this Hornet taking off from Townsville. I admit that it is not a good photo at all (well away from the airfield after take off...), but the code 18 is readable both on the tail and on the nose. Couldn't they have sent new aircraft to Iwakuni during their deplyment, so after March 15th 2011? Information from anyone in the Townsville area could clarify things, also with regard to the other missing aircraft! Anybody?

That F/A-18A pic of "VW-18" looks distinctly like VW-10 to me.

That F/A-18A pic of "VW-18" looks distinctly like VW-10 to me.

If it is VW-10, then that would be a new addition to the Iwakuni deployment listed in the forum, http://forum.scramble.nl/viewtopic.php?p=514707
