Hey Trevor,

just want to tell you that there is a possibility you have to use a Chipcard at Amsterdam, because they are required for public transportation in Amsterdam. You can buy these at the tourist information shops called "VVV" (which are quite easy to remember haha).I don't know if the cards are required for the entire journey to Leeuwarden aswell, but for transportation within Amsterdam it's an absolute must to have...

Second: please be advised that Trains can be rather busy these days around Leeuwarden..

Third: Trip is going to take you about 2 and a half hours at least... this because the train has to drive all around the IJselmeer which actually makes you see a large part of the Netherlands aswel. So keep this in mind to prevent any dissapointments or hickups in your timetable...

Thanks guys, I will plan on taking the train and leaving early to allow more time to get there. I will also check out the VVV store for the chipcard!!

Thanks for the heads up!!

Trevor

p.s. do you guys know if Friday's show will be less crowded versus the Saturday show?

Friday is certainly far less crowded...
Also, on a Friday you can take an early train. Which is nice, as trains will rapidly fill up with passengers (and get delayed...) the closer you get to Leeuwarden...
If the weather is fine you can expect about 150,000 visitors (perhaps even more!) on the Saturday.

Anyone happen to know when the shuttle buses start driving on the Friday?

Does anyone know if there is a schedule for Friday and Saturday regarding the flying times for the air show?

You receive the schedule on the day itself in a booklet, don't think it is made public beforehand.

From the Reds website:
The fortitude, resilience and pride that Jon showed in life are exactly the qualities that define our Armed Forces and it is these that will enable us to get back on our feet and move on. For that reason, and in Jon's memory, the Red Arrows will be displaying to the public again at the earliest possible opportunity."

Ben Murphy
Furthermore: Leeuwarden is still on the Reds' schedule, also at their own site (as more shows are that are taking place before the Air Force Days). Oh, and about the gossip about no flying for the rest of the season, if that is true, can anybody tell me what would be the reason why the Reds would resume training if their next display would be with a different team (and probably a new leader)?

Given the fact that Slovakia stopped flying the Su-22 some years ago already....

By the way, the news about the Polish (MiG's and Su) was posted one page ago already. So not much news in the past posts (including this one, which may be deleted as well).

The weather forecast for the Open Days looks promising so far.

I know its still almost 2 weeks from now.

But according to Buienradar.nl it seems dry those 2 days.

Then again its dutch weather ; you never know what you're gonne get.

This confirms the very strong and well-informed rumours I heard a week ago. Pity, it seems this year would be the last time a Dutch Lynx would show up at the Luchtmachtdagen :?:

To end all speculations :!: this is because of serviceability/availability problems with the Dutch Lynxes over the last few months.
Yes, the source above is well-informed  and "very close to the fire".
