WEF 2012

Post by michel N »

From 25th until 29th January (edit) the annual WEF will take place in Davos, Switzerland. Which airbase will provide the CAP during that week? Meiringen, Sion or Payerne?

regards,

Michel

Hi everybody,
Thank you very much for the heads up on Sion.
Since I would like to get some action on the weekend, they usually fly on both Saturday and Sunday, or did they fly only on the first one?

Many thanks in advance,
Best Regards,
Marco

They never flew on Sundays in the last years. If it is not absolutely necessary, they have to avoid noise (especially in Sion).

Grüezi Swissmember,

Are you sure they fly from Sion? What about Payerne and Emmen?

In case you understand german:

http://www.vtg.admin.ch/internet/vtg/de ... ef/lw.html

In the last sentence they mention that most jet ops will be from Sion.

Payerne along with Meiringen will be the jet option if they can't fly from Sion.

Emmen certainly won't be a good option, as it is not sufficiently equipped to accomodate jet flights in low viz conditions ...

Cheers

Grtz,

Marcel
Yes I'am. Payerne is the main alternate airbase for Sion and could host the jets if necessary. Meiringen is the second diversion airfield. Emmen is an alternate airfield as well but only during the week and with readyness on weekend.

As I know Meiringen is only an alternate for jets which are not able to land in Sion. If they can't fly in Sion, they moved to Sion. Anyway Emmen is fully equipped for Jets but has only the status as training airfield and probably can't have armed aircrafts. The WEF is registered in the flight plan for Jets (alternate) and Props.

Austrian Eurofighters on duty during World Economic Forum

Austrian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons are again protecting the skies over the World Economic Forum.

January 24: Austrian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoons are again protecting the skies over the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The operation known as ‘Daedalus 12’ will see four Eurofighters deployed to protect the area in a temporary no-fly zone over western Austria and Davos in particular.

The Eurofighters will work alongside Austrian Air Force turboprop PC-7 trainers and OH-58 Kiowa helicopters protecting the skies against potential ‘slow moving aerial threats’ for the duration of the Forum until January 29.
