Hungary is keen to increase the helicopter capability of its armed forces and has reportedly been studying the purchase of the UH-1s for around a year.
Earlier this year, Finland donated its last two operational Mi-8 Hip transport helicopters to Hungary where they will be used for training purposes.

Hungary Seeks 32 ex-USMC UH-1Ns
US Congress has now been notified of the proposed sale of 32 ex-USMC UH-1N helicopters to Hungary.
US OFFICIALS confirmed on December 8 that the Government of Hungary is planning to acquire 32 UH-1Ns.
These former US Marine Corps utility helicopters will be donated free-of-charge as Excess Defense Articles, although Hungary will pay for modifications to suit their requirements.
A US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notification to Congress was submitted on December 6 for the associated Foreign Military Sale covering their modification and inspection.
This would also include 20 spare T-400 engines, associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support, at an estimated cost of $426 million.
Also provided will be Forward Looking Infrared Radar, Night Vision Devices, simulators, spare and repair parts, support and test equipment, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment, US Government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services and other related elements of logistical and programme support.
